What is the world's fastest man-made object?
In the mid 1970's Federal Republic of Germany and NASA launched two probe that were to orbit the Sun, Helios 1 and Helios 2. Helios 1 was launched in December 1974 and Helios 2 in January 1976, both reaching an orbit of 45 million kilometers from the Sun, that's within the orbit of Mercury. Due to their elliptical orbit the probes reached speeds of about 250,000 KM/H with Helios 2 reaching 252,792 KM/H or 157,078 MPH, making it the world's fastest manmade object to date (meaning 1 Jan 2008!). That's going from Earth, to the moon, and back, in a tad over 3 hours! It took the Apollo 11 crew 3 days!
What does a B-52 cost?
In 1952, you could walk down to your local B-52 dealer (across the street from Pontiac!) and pick up a base model for 14.43 Million USD. Today, your local Used-BUFF store can hand you the keys to a refurbished model for 53.4 Million USD. Alternatively, if your a fool with loads of money and like black, want to go slower, carry less and look like an idiot, the B-2-R-Us dealer (across from Ford, and like a Ford, it looks good, but ain't worth the money!) will sell you a new B-2 for just over 2.2 Billion USD!
What's more dangerous Pig or Great White Shark?
Statistically, you have a greater chance of being attacked (and killed) by a pig than a great white shark! So be careful while swiming in pig infested waters!
